Powder Warnings - Colorado, Utah & Wyoming
7 Day Powder Forecast
Written by Powderchaser Steve
Saturday, 31 January 2009 17:56
A lull in the action will return this week after some light snow is possible on Sunday/Monday with strong high pressure and warming temperatures for the middle of the week. The East Coast might be the best place to be this week as Jay Peak just got slammed with over 30 inches of DRY powder which looks like a day at Alta by the pics  www.jaypeakresort.com    They will be slammed again early this week!

Vail and Steamboat were blasted last Thursday where between 9-14 inches made for epic conditions with the West/Northwest Flow and very cold temperatures for those lucky to be on the slopes. Other areas only saw 2-6 inches in Colorado and Utah.

High Pressure will break down next Friday/Saturday where some snow will return to the Rockies however at this time it appears to be a moderate event at best but if things pan out could continue into the following week?

My optimism is that for every week of dry weather we end up making it up in the long run so get out and do some biking or skate skiing this week and keep those powder boards ready for the next powder alert which I hope to be able to issue by next weekend?

Powder Warning - Colorado and Utah
Written by Powderchaser Steve
Sunday, 25 January 2009 23:00
Alta hit 100 Inches at the mid mountain base today with over 24 inches in the past 48 hours. Moderate snow will continue in the Wasatch until 2pm on Monday (5-11 inches additional). Colorado is seeing temperatures finally fall tonight as better density snow begins to affect the region late tonight and Monday. The storm is predominantly affecting areas favored by Southwest Flow (Aspen, and South) however will have the best impact on the I-70 Corridor and Northern Mountains from 11am Monday to 11PM.  Therefore Monday stands the chance to be a storm ski day and Tuesday morning might even be better.  Snow will wind down in Utah by Monday afternoon with a 3rd epic day expected in the morning.

High Pressure grabs us again towards the middle of the week and should last into this upcoming weekend. Please visit www.powderchasers.com  for additional information and our blogs.

Winter to Return to Rockies
Written by Powderchaser Steve
Friday, 23 January 2009 12:34
High pressure is finally breaking down across the West as a moderate spring like storm has made itself into Western Colorado and Utah this morning.  7 inches of wet snow has accumulated near Alta with a rain/snow mix at the lowest elevations and mostly rain in Park City. Colorado snow will pick up late this morning and continue until midnight with between 5-10 inches expected in many areas with high snow levels starting out around 9,000 feet and lowering to 7,000 feet tonight. The snow in Utah will taper off late this morning.

A stronger surge of moisture should work itself into both Utah and Colorado on Sunday and Monday with the potential for heavy snow by Monday morning. The exact track of the low is still unknown however my guess is that mountains favored by Southwest flow (Aspen, Big Cottonwood,Snowbasin) will do best? Light to moderate snow could continue into much of next week so stay tuned to www.powderchasers.com

Thursday, 01 January 2009 19:35

A series of deep storms will ring in the New Year!  A continuous stream of moisture off of the pacific will bring us 8-14 inch dumps every 2- 3 days beginning with Friday Night where a sharp cold front will slam into the Wasatch bringing a 6-8 hour period of moderate snow, Moderate winds, and decent density.

This will start to affect Colorado on Saturday morning and continue through the late afternoon. The Pacific Northwest has recieved 1-2 feet of low density snow in the past 24 hours bringing their snowpack finally to epic amounts for 2008/09. Jackson Hole Wyoming continues to see heavy snow where 8 inches fell last night  and another 7-14 may hit them tonight before the cold front makes its way to Utah Friday afternoon.  Here is how it should all shape up this week.

Thursday night- Wyoming Snow (6-12 inches by noon Friday)

Friday afternoon- (Heavy Snow in the Wasatch of Utah through 3am Saturday- (8-15 inches).

Saturday morning- Heavy Snow in Colorado till 5pm Saturday (7-11 inches) All areas should see snow out of this one! This will be a great day to storm ski.

Long Range Powder:  Monday Night/Tuesday  (Heavy Snow likely).  Wednesday night/Thursday (Moderate Snow likely).
