EPIC snowfall reports are coming in from the Southwest Colorado (20 inches plus at Wolf Creek), Lake Tahoe (2-3 feet), and especially Northern Utah where up to 36 inches has fallen in the past 24 hours! Even the Tetons picked up significant snow where Jackson Hole has lower mountain lifts and over 16 inches of freshies. The expect to open up the upper mountain next weekend! I ended up driving to Snowbird where I logged laps on Regulator Johnson off the tram (Only run open currently at top) that kept filling in with new snow on every trip!
Tonights pattern will shift all snow from Southern Colorado to the North with winds already from the West/Northwest which shoud finally allow the Vail Valley, Steamboat, and our moisture starved resorts in Summit County to pick up between 4-9 inches tonight and tomorrow morning. Radar shows a good pattern setting up over I-70 currently. The cottonwoods of Utah will see snow showers continuing into Monday morning at lower intensity than today with another 4-7 inches possible.
High pressure settles in until Wednesday night where a weak disturbance should produce some snow in the Northern tier of the Rockies. |

Update issued at 4:45Pm 12/7/2009
Just a quick FRESHIE update to all of you starved skiers this year! The storm currently centered over Las Vegas is intensifying rapidly and beginning to impact Southern Utah and Colorado this evening. The Sierra of California picked up 2 feet plus thus far from the storm of very light density snow. Radar shows most of the moisture is winding down in California. Wolf Creek in Southern Colorado has picked up 32 inches in the past 2 days and the bulk of the storm has yet to hit there! Therefore I predict

Powder alert issued 12/4/09 at 4:45PM
A series of storms will affect Rockies over the next 5 days with a very good chance of some areas picking up an excess of 18-20 inches by Tuesday morning! This is going to be one that might be worth the chase! A very sharp cold front will drive down through the northern tier of Wyoming/Utah/Colorado on Saturday night/Sunday morning with moderate snow possible in areas favored by orographic snowfall. This will primarily affect areas like Steamboat where extremely low density snow will fall through the night (Not great for base) with what I expect to be in the 4-9 inch range. Higher amounts are possible at upper elevations (9-11). Snowfall will occur primarily...
