Here is a quick summary while on the chase! The Wasatch Range of Utah picked up another 7-10 inches of 5% blower last night (On top of 5-10 from yesterday). The Southern San Juan’s of Colorado will see a solid 12 hour window of heavy snow during the day (9-15) before it migrates north (Monarch could be good on Tuesday). This is all on top of the nearly 20 inches that fell on Sunday at Silverton, Wolf Creek and Durango Mountain. Crested Butte will see moderate snow. This storm migrates into the I-70 corridor late tonight and Tuesday so expect 4-8 in many areas (Aspen Favored).
The Northwest (Cascades) is nearly at an epic alert this week (Snow levels not the best but not bad). HEAVY DUMPAGE will occur tonight into Tuesday primarily from Stevens Pass South (Alpental, Stevens, Crystal). Expect 3,000 foot snow levels (12-15 new by noon Tuesday) and a rise in snow levels by the end of the day (4,000 feet). Snow continues in the Cascades through Wednesday (slighter higher snow levels). Tuesday morning might be the best pick? Several to choose from. Central Idaho will also pick up appreciable snowfall over the next several days.
The Wasatch fires up again on Tuesday (mainly during the day) with higher snow levels under NW flow ( 10% densities). Expect decent dumpage over the Wasatch during the day Tuesday. the Northern Wasatch might be favored however the NW flow favors the Cottonwoods so amounts will be tricky. Watch Powder Mountain as they might reap the rewards? The Tetons will see light to moderate amounts? Storm #3 hits Wednesday night and favors the North. The models show more moisture over the Tetons than the Wasatch (6-9). For Colorado NW flow kicks in Tuesday night through Thursday so expect light to moderate snow each day over I-70 from Vail to Steamboat including Summit County. Vail will be slightly favored!
Even the East Coasters get some snow in the next 24 hours (2-5 in central and southern New England), and some wet snow/rain mix by midweek. More light snow possible and colder temps there by Thursday!
I am on the chase to Snowbird so stay tuned for later updates! Please post snowfall, amounts, epicness etc. under Powder Buzz on the homepage or on Facebook “comments”
