Quick Update: The Tetons, Sierra, Northwest, Wasatch, and most of Northern and Central Colorado all picked up significant snowfall in the past 48 hours with over 16 inches in many spots in Lake Tahoe, 15 inches at Crested Butte, and over 21 inches at most of Utah’s Northern Resorts. Jackson Hole logged over 40 inches in the past 3 days! I logged over 80 inches in the past 7 days in 3 States (WA, UT, WY) on the powder chase however was shut down several times due to lift closures, winds, and very dense snow. Today was nearly epic at Solitude (22 inches new) with light density on top of a dense layer, blue skies, and light winds however I might guess that every skier in Utah was out today judging by the crowds, and CA license plates putting the Sierra Powderchasers there today. Perhaps it is Sundance spillover as Park City is basically swarmed with the LA film Crowd!
Heavy snow will break out over the Sierra tonight into Monday with up to 20 inches in many areas that saw nearly no snow in the month of December! The Northwest will see moderate to heavy snow in the next 24-48 hours with up to 14 inches likely at Crystal and Stevens by Monday night and even higher amounts over British Columbia (Good light density). Light to moderate snow will be falling over Southern Idaho, the Tetons, and Northern Wasatch on Monday evening into Tuesday and will migrate into the 4 corners of Colorado by Tuesday AM. This could produce amounts in the Rockies in the 4-8 inch range by Tuesday evening. (Higher amounts in the Wasatch and Tetons). The Central and Northern Colorado mountains will see light snow Tuesday/Wednesday (2-5 along I-70).
Quick look at the extended:
A stronger system moves into the Tetons of Wyoming this Thursday night and migrates over the Northern Rockies through Saturday (6-9 inches expected). Most of the moisture will not get further South than interstate 70 in Colorado and areas in Wyoming will do the best. The East Coast could pick up a decent cold system by next weekend!
Beyond the system next weekend the weather retreats to high pressure through February 4th when several systems appear to impact the Rockies, Sierra, Wasatch, and Northwest (FEB 4-6) The East Coast might see another decent system on January 31st.

Steve- wanted to thank for for the great day at Brighton today, you are the man.
ALWAYS!! Brighton was on my list as a hot spot as I like the high speed chair on the left (Main fast chair to the left of the main lodge) and taking a right from the top ramp and hitting that steep short face.
Steve, things are finally looking good! Thanks for your updates. I’m jealous of the totals that Utah and Jackson have been posting…but I can’t complain about the epic pow in Vail today. Once we fought through the morning crowds, we actually found entire sections of trees today that had waist deep pow at Vail. We got lucky a couple times today and hit a bowl area that ski patrol had just dropped the ropes for the season, so we were rewarded with DEEP untouched powder! What a day.

Mike: Sounds like you did well! My chase has been very frustrating, chairs closed due to winds, very dense snow, delayed openings for AVY control, and then once you get the real powder the crowds come running! On a normal year in the Rockies I dont think everyone would be pressed against the glass waiting for a single drop of snow!
I hear ya… I’ve also been increasingly frustrated that almost every resort is fully tracked out by 1030am too on any given powder day.
That’s why me and 5 other friends have decided to take a heli trip to interior BC this winter to live the dream of bottomless powder for 5 straight days without having to fight elbow to elbow for fresh tracks.
Steve, if you’re interested in joining the BC trip, hit me up… There’s 6 of us so far, 4 from Colo (and we all have internet businesses, so a great biz networking group too). We’re going to the legendary Monashee mountains in interior BC (2000 cm annual avg snowfall!)
Our trip is 5 days, from Mar 10-15, and then doing 3 more days in Revelstoke (we get 3 free days at Revvy with our Monarch passes). Hit me up if you’re interested in joining our group for a dream 5 days of bottomless powder, and then hopefully a few pow days at Revvy too.
Mike
Mike: That sounds hard to turn down however my vacation time even though I chase powder working as I go is pretty limited? Where in CO are you located? I have a PAD in Boulder so perhaps we can get together and talk powder! One of the best kept secrets for powder is still in Washington where the crowds tend to be less.
Hey Steve, yeah let’s meet up sometime for a pow day. I live right near Vail, so usually just do either Beav or Vail. but have friends in Breck too. We have a Monarch pass so are trying to hit a lot of the partner mtns. Me and friends are a bunch of internet marketers so I never miss a pow day, and just work at night.
