While details of how each individual resort will operate this Winter continue to trickle out, we at Powderchasers, continue, as always, to monitor the weather. With the devastating wildfires across California, Oregon, Washington, and much of the intermountain west, we have been desperate for much needed precipitation as drought conditions continue to worsen. Here is a map showing the current drought situation across the region.

Some relief to this ongoing drought has been showing up in the models the last several days. As of this afternoon, we have high confidence in rain and upper elevation snow in the Northwest (WA, OR, BC, ID), but we are less certain how far south the system will ultimately make it. There is a reasonable possibility that the system drops far enough south to provide desperately needed rains for California, and possibly NV, UT, and CO as well. Here is one model’s precipitation forecast for the west through October 12th. You can see some impressive amounts of rain for the Northwest, and lesser, but still quite helpful, totals over California and the central Rockies.

Unfortunately though, the EURO is totally dry for most of California for the next 10 days.

As mentioned, there’s some high elevation snow possible too. Everyone likes a snow map, right?

Finally, we have a few announcements to make, including a few reminders of some price increases that are coming up fast. First, we‘d like to introduce a new partner for the 2020/2021 season, Selkirk Powder Guides. They are currently booking for this season, and you can reserve cat skiing, heli skiing, and more here. Next, the price goes up on October 14th for the Ikon Pass. Make sure to lock in the lowest rate before then, right here. The prices of the Powder Concierge will increase on October 15th as well. Please sign up for custom forecast to nail your chase this season! You can do so here.
That’s all for now everyone.
