It has been a long battle as the Caldor Fire came inside the ski area boundaries at Sierra at Tahoe, and apparently very close to Heavenly Ski Resort earlier last week. Firefighters are gaining the upper hand with crews battling this blaze from agencies all around the nation and with the support of FEMA as a State of Emergency was declared for this region. Winds have decreased with higher humidity in the past several days allowing Firefighters to reduce the spread of the fire. Last Sunday/Mondays damage to Sierra at Tahoe resort caused damage to some maintenance buildings, and trees as it entered the resort. The main lodge and infrastructure was saved. Powderchasers forecasters are looking at a chance of some rain and cooler temps by the end of next week albeit stronger winds. Currently the Caldor Fire is at 29% containment.

Finally, some progress has ensued on the spread of this fire, however just 50 miles to the north is California's 2nd largest fire with 55% containment. Some residents have been allowed to return to their homes in the past few days.
“The incident continues to look better and better every day,” Tim Burton, an operations chief with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention, told firefighters at a Saturday briefing. “A large part of that is due to your hard work as well as the weather cooperating in the last week or so.”
